I create figurative sculptures in clay to express my interest in human nature, the human condition and its relation to and with the environment. I use coloured clay slips (engobes) and often fire my work using the raku technique.

When using raku I collaborate with a expert in raku firing (Dorothée Leoni) to achieve the looks I want. This technique gives my sculptures unpredictable surface textures and colours (so exciting) that contribute to the feeling of spontaneity, reinforcing my goals to capture a moment in time, a fleeting expression or an emotion on the faces of my creations.  

Every day we take our cues from peoples expressions. We read the faces of the people we meet, seeking information on their mood, interpreting the actual meaning of what they are saying… or not saying. Some of those cues are so fast we miss them. Each time I make a new sculpture I am searching to capture those expressions and freeze them in time.
